Our curriculum is broad, balanced and personalised. It has three pathways so that every pupil learns in the way that suits them best, with their EHC plan outcomes built into every lesson.
Sensory pathway
For pupils with complex learning, physical and communication needs. Learning focuses on communication, sensory exploration, physical development and making choices.
Semi-formal pathway
For pupils who learn best through practical, real-life experiences. Literacy, numeracy and life skills are taught through topics and the local community.
Formal pathway
For pupils working towards subject-based learning and accredited qualifications such as Entry Level Certificates and Functional Skills at Key Stage 4.
Across the curriculum
- Communication and language, including signing and symbols
- Personal, social and health education and relationships education
- Independent living skills and travel training
- Careers education, work experience and enterprise
- Creative arts, music and physical education
Reading and phonics
Reading is at the heart of everything we do. Pupils learn to read through a systematic synthetic phonics programme, adapted so that every pupil can take part, alongside sensory stories, symbols and shared reading every day.
